baby chicks have arrived

we have been working hard for the last 2 months to get prepared for the delivery of the baby chicks. there have been so many choices and learning experiences in getting prepared for the new babies. my friends jimmy and ben built a chicken coop, (pix to come). i did tons of research on where to get the chicks from, and how to prepare for their arrival. i got auracunda chickens, because i wanted blue and green eggs. all females (no you don't need a rooster for the hens to lay eggs-the roosters fertilize the eggs if you want to hatch them).i prepared their little cardboard box with a 150 watt bulb, baby chick feed, a shell rock mixture that help the chicks break down the food in their mouth because they don't have teeth. i got them a little waterer that gets filled with water and drains out into a little bowl. in these pictures they are 3 days old. they have 5 more weeks in their little box on our kitchen counter, and then they make the trip into the coop in the yard. i will keep you updated!
